KinderCare Education LLC, the largest childcare provider in the U.S. has acquired Troy-based Rainbow Child Care Center.
Oregon-based KinderCare Education employs more than 32,000 teachers and staff serving 170,000 children. It operates more than 1,380 early learning centers and more than 500 school sites offering before- and after-school programs. With Rainbow, it will now have a presence in 40 states and the District of Columbia.
KinderCare did not directly comment on whether the acquisition will impact Rainbow staff and sites. But Alex Pentland, senior director of corporations for the company, said, “There is practically no overlap in the communities served, so this is an opportunity for expansion and growth.”
In addition, Rainbow has a proven track record of opening new centers at a rapid pace, she said. “The two companies both bring a lot of strengths to the table, so we are going to develop the step-by-step integration plan that makes sense for the entire organization.” At some point, all centers will operate under the KinderCare banner, Pentland said.
“Through this acquisition, KinderCare will grow our footprint overnight with a partner who shares our values and commitment to children and families,” CEO, Tom Wyatt said in a news release.
“Meanwhile, our centers and our employees and families will benefit from the scale and expertise that KinderCare offers.”
